Mijireh Error: Total Must Add Up Correctly

If you are using WooCommerce and getting the error:

Mijireh error: {"total":["must add up correctly to the items, discount,
tax and shipping costs"]}

The solution may be to round tax at subtotal level instead of rounding per line. In the WooCommerce Tax Options settings.

Also, do NOT both include the tax in the item price AND as a line item on the order. The sum of the items in the order plus the shipping, tax, and discounts must all add up to order total.

If you are using the bulk discount plugin, setting the discount to a percentage (%) often causes a rounding error that results in this error. Setting the discount to a dollar amount ($) resolves the problem and does not cause this error.

I started having this problem after WooCommerce and a couple other plugins updated recently. I'm not in the practice of charging tax (probably should but oh well).

Here's how I set WooCommerce and Product settings to fix the error.

Check - enable taxes and tax calculations

Radio button - No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax

    Shipping Tax Class: Zero Rate

Check: Round tax at subtotal level, instead of rounding per line

Display prices during cart/checkout: Excluding tax

    Product attributes:

    Tax Status: None

    Tax Class: Zero Rate

Hope this provides some useful detail. I don't know, but it seems like some of the settings may be redundant, but as it is right now my site is functional.

The fix for me was pretty simple - all I needed to do was to tick the Rounding box in the _WooCommerce Tax Settings._Rounding Round tax at subtotal level, instead of rounding per line

I hope you realize that in the EU a VAT registered store is required by law to display prices including taxes and at checkout display the full amount of taxes on a separate line. Quite literally this problem renders the whole service absolutely useless for some. Any news when this will get properly addressed?

"The solution may be to round tax at subtotal level instead of rounding per line. In the WooCommerce Tax Options settings."

    • Doesn't work with multiples of the same item.

*"Also, do NOT both include the tax in the item price AND as a line item on the order. The sum of the items in the order plus the shipping, tax, and discounts must all add up to order total."

    • Every VAT registered store in the EU is legally required to specifically show items including tax AND the total amount of tax on a separate line. So yeah.
    • There might be a workaround through Woocommerce php, but good luck maintaining your own MacGyver code if they ever update ever again.
(Pfffft.... Now who'd ever care to update a web payment tool... /s )

    Regardless, anyone got new suggestions?
